There is also a dump station just before entering the campground.Īrch Rock Campground is a smaller, more primitive tent campground. There is a water faucet in each site, a covered picnic table, fire ring, and tent pad. There are 44 campsites and about half are RV hook-up sites. The Atlatl Campground has showers and flush toilets. The reality is that all the sites are pretty great, although some have less space we had a ton of space. We were also a few minutes hike near one of the panels of petroglyphs. This was a great spot with lots of rock climbing options it exceeded our Valley of Fire camping expectations. We stayed at the Atlatl Campground at site 1. We were a little nervous about that, but there were always a couple of sites available until mid-afternoon. Both campgrounds are first-come, first-serve. If you want to stay at the Valley of Fire Park, camping is your only option. For example, you can find dispersed camping near Valley of Fire around the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. While it can get windy, the ground is flat and can accommodate all types of RVs.Īnother option is Valley of Fire backcountry camping, although youll be further from the park and its campground amenities. The Valley of Fire camping fees are quite reasonable and staying overnight in the park is cheaper than staying at a nearby hotel. I almost never take photos of people I don’t know but I found myself wanting to capture all these moments of connection and relationship. I’ve been in many a campground but that day I found myself taking note of the people gathered around the lake, enjoying the company of family and friends. And out on the water I could see the few fishing boats that had already launched and watched as thermoses were passed from bow to stern and back in two different boats. Along the way we walked past multiple families emerging from tents and trailers, sharing breakfast, and baiting fishing rods, as well as groups of new acquaintances chatting by the boat ramps. Morning brought the opportunity to explore the shore of the lake up close. After a day under the sun however we decided to head back for a late afternoon beer and a view of the sunset by the lake. We had actually found our spot before we left for the hike so on the return to camp we stopped for a quick walk out to the fringes of the so-called Bowl of Fire, an area of exposed red sandstone a little more than a mile walk from the Northshore Road. After our hike in Anniversary Narrows we spent the night at Government Point, near the northwest corner of Lake Mead.
